Call For Love Letters

Email Sent: 12/22/08

What: We’re getting married

Where: Makati

When: January 17, 2009, 5 PM

Who:

  • Bride – Maria Rominda Carzon Rabanal
  • Groom – Sherwin Paculdar Baniqued
  • Godparents/Witnesses – lovely couple (Martina and Ronie Quesada)
  • Guests – None
  • Special Guest – Potling (the little one)

How:

  • Civil Wedding to be officiated by Reverend Minister Franco Espiritu;
  • Dinner with family follows

Why: Why not

Why are you receiving this email:

  • Because you would have been invited had we decided to go for a traditional wedding ceremony and reception
  • Because we will invite you one of these days (maybe in a year or two) to our post-wedding celebration
  • Because we have a special request…

Which is….

We are putting together a very special scrapbook to remember our wedding by. We reserved a page/s for you on this scrapbook. If you have the time (it’s the holidays!) and inspiration, please write (choose one, two or all):

  • Love letter for your partner/for your one great love/current object of your affection
  • Love letter to love
  • Love letter to someone you love/d but lost/can’t have

You may email your love letter to sherwin.romi (at) gmail (dot) com. If you would like to give us a handwritten love letter, just let us know so we can make the necessary arrangements. Yes, there is a deadline for submission. February 17, 2009 (our 9th anniversary as a couple). After said date, we will start working on the scrapbook.

  • Reminder 1: As this is a wedding scrapbook, please try not to write about your love for God, your art, your angst, your country, your hidden child, your pet, your self, etc. Those are definitely great “loves” to write about but for this little project, remember two words – romantic love.
  • Reminder 2: Love letters can be written in English or Filipino (only because these are the only two languages that we are able to speak and understand)
  • Reminder 3: Although we’re requesting for love letters, you may express yourself through poetry too (Romi likes!)… or images, sketches, photos, etc.
  • Reminder 4: The scrapbook will be displayed – therefore it’s going to be a PUBLIC document for guests, relatives, etc.– in our house. Our hope is for it to be a family treasure. If you would like to use a “pen name” please let us know when you send in your letter.

Thank you for your time and attention. We’ll wait for your letters. 🙂

P.S. We might have forgotten to send this to a lot of people… hormones and ageing! Feel free to spread the update and request.

My Real Christmas Wish

Sharksfin’s current work structure is people-centric. This means that, work is highly dependent on INDIVIDUALS not job titles. Such set-up would have been ok if they are not understaffed. But they are. Sharksfin is the only person who can do what he’s supposed to do (same with his dependable team mate Liv). Which means no one can get sick, die, be abducted by aliens without making sure that deliverables are met.

So this is my real Christmas (hopefully not a lifetime) wish:

I wish for Sharksfin to be CAPABLE of working only  from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM

  • without having to do overtime work (weekends, holidays, extra hours during weekdays) – he’s been spending 14 hours at work these days
  • without having to skip the government mandated 1 hour lunch (and some company-goodwill break)
  • without having to work when he’s at home

This is my wish because:

  • I want Sharksfin to live longer. His maternal grandparents both died of cardiac arrest. The stress that he’s dealing with at work scares the hell out of me because of the damage that it could be doing to his (highly possible) weak heart. He usually goes to zzzz-land before I do so I get the chance to listen to his heartbeat. I am not liking the significant increase in his heart rate.
  • I want Sharksfin to have the energy and time to enjoy – fatherhood (which comes in a few months).
  • I want Sharksfin to have the energy and time for other things (PSP, TV, reading, writing, etc.).
  • I want our relationship to deepen over the years… not turn into a housemate – weekend partner affair.

And that is my real Christmas wish.

    Wishlist (Selfish)

Assuming that you are a friend/relative/colleague/fan (wow!) and you are having a hard time finding a gift for me… here are some ideas.

Category 1: Essentials – I am not difficult (nor expensive) to please. These are the things I regularly buy. If you get me these items, aside from their utilitarian value, you’re also giving me the gift of extra time to do other things with my life. That’s priceless.

    • Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – for the face
    • Jergens Shea Butter Enriching Moisturizer – not the gold one that supposedly gives your skin extra shimmer… I’m after the lotion.  I finished a 1.45 L bottle in less than three months. Preggy women are itchy and scratchy. This has been my best friend. No, I don’t want the ridiculously priced Palmer’s. Though known to take care of itchiness and stretchmarks, I don’t like the creases it leaves on the wallet.
    • Petroleum Jelly – explained here
    • Pantene – purple on black, for hairfall
    • Cream Silk – white or blue
    • Ivory – this is my pregnancy soap
    • Olay (shea butter) – will be reunited with Olay after I give birth (tentative)

Category 2: Not-So Essentials – repeat description from category 1, just change frequency of purchase from “regularly” to “sometimes.” I buy these things in celebration of very little joys and triumphs… Or when the consumerist bug bites. Some of the items here have been on the “I will buy” list for years. Sometimes it just feels extra great when things you’ve been coveting for the longest time land on your lap as gifts. Heheh!

    • Cologne – Angel’s Breath, Nenuco, Denenes, Calgon, Victoria’s Secret (I like the “subtle” and fruity ones… with subtle, I mean that it will take a really intimate sniff before you can tell I’m wearing it)
    • Scholl Foot Care Products
    • Spray-on Sunblock  – I really want to go back to swimming after I give birth. I need this.
    • Socks – ankle socks; different colors, different ooohs and aaahs from me; anything below PhP 50.00 each

Category 3:  Kikay – simple reminders. I am not brand-conscious. I want them cheap. I will not be happy with expensive choices.

    • Dangling Earrings – bohemian and simple designs please; no post-it colors
    • Bracelets – same; anything below PhP 100.00 (that’s required for the guilt)
    • Necklaces – same; anything below PhP 100.00 (that’s required for the guilt)
    • Wrist Watch – like the ones with black leather straps and square faces; anything below PhP 200.00 (that’s required for the guilt)
    • Doll Shoes – no ribbons; love earth colors; anything below PhP 300.00; max 2-inches for heels; flats are preferred
    • Bags – anything less than PhP 300.00; made of canvas; don’t like leather bags; body bags and knapsacks preferred
    • Chucks – hmm… nevermind. Not from a friend. Masyadong mahal.

Category 4: Luxury – at least for me; more of wants, not needs

    • Notebooks
    • Office Supplies (pens, pencils, post-it)
    • Special sharpener – the one with the lever that needs to be turned for the thing to work
    • Arts and crafts supplies
    • Cash for ukay ukay shopping!

Category 5: c/o Wish ko Lang (for now)

    • Laptop
    • Digital Camera
    • Books by Malcolm Gladwell
    • Kepner – Tregoe recommended books
    • Books by Daniel Goleman
    • “7 Habits” and “8th Habit” by Covey
    • “If Only He Knew” and “If Only She Knew” by Gary Smalley
    • Books on: Leadership Development Training, Organizational Development, Culture Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, Project Management, etc.

To be continued…narcissism is so tiring.

Channelling Mr. Postman – Part 2

Thank you to the first three beautiful creatures that sent their love letters. Big hearts and hugs to you. Merry Christmas and happy hearts!

    Mama Cris – Oh love…

Jepoy – Tears my friend… buckets and buckets of tears…

    Monmon – Ka-sweet man gyud!

Why love letters? Aside from the fact that I am a fan of letter writing, our story started with letters – Journ majors eh. Letters played a major role in our relationship… we were both better at expressing ourselves on paper than on any other medium of communication.

Well, eventually, we learned how to talk. We barely write letters to each other these days. But we have a little whiteboard on the door of our fridge. And notice how he’s all over this blog?

    Chanelling… Mr. Postman

Sent this out a few minutes ago (just changed some details for this post)… hate it… missed a couple of typo’s. But excited just the same to get them love letters!

    Pedro and Rosita

Love the story… Thanks to Bangus for sharing.

    weeweechu

It’s a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, “Hey, mamacita, let’s do Weeweechu.”

“Oh no, not now, let’s look at the moon!” said Rosita.

“Oh, c’mon baby, let’s you and I do Weeweechu.  I love you and it’s the perfect time,” Pedro begged.

“But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon.” replied Rosita.

“Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me.”

Rosita looked at Pedro and said, “OK, one time, we’ll do Weeweechu.”

Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang…..

“Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, Weeweechu a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.”

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!
